Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research


Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research is the R&D organisation closely related to Wageningen University. The research focus is on sustainable innovation in the areas of healthy food, sustainable fresh food chains and biobased products. National and international contracting authorities choose Food & Biobased Research because it is professional, provides innovative market-oriented solutions and has a high scientific standing. Food & Biobased Research works closely with these authorities to develop creative solutions to gear up for sustainable and profitable growth. Food & Biobased Research consists of two business units: Fresh, Food and Chains, and Biobased Products. The group Food Quality Analysis which is embedded in the business unit Fresh, Food & and Chains is a multidisciplinary group consisting of plant physiology experts, molecular biologists, (food) biochemists, plant and food product expertise, have knowledge on human nutrition, expertise on food laws and legislation and more. Currently, its focus is on developing methods to study the gut and immune health effects of compounds and products in order to support product design and optimise the health value of products from growth to consumers.

  • Contribution to product development and biochemical analysis (WP2)
  • In vitro bioactivity measurements to study effects of NPS sources, processing and product design on bioactivity (WP3)
  • Support in data upload and data analysis (WP5)
  • Contribution to consumer acceptation, claims and legislation and market studies (WP6)
  • Coordination of dissemination and exploitation activities (WP8)
